1 + 2) Poster design by Swiss graphic designer Josef Muller Brockmann. The simplicity of his work is what I find appealing, the sans serif typeface's and clean lines show qualities of modernist Graphic Design. Most of Brockmanns work is made using the grid system. The posters are kept minimal and the type is the focus of the image.

The simplistic shapes in this poster as well as the block's of colour make it appear to be quite simple despite the serif type that is used it is a clear example of modernist design. There is a certain simplicity to the overall design which reflects one of the key aspects of modernist design.

The use of photomontage and diagonal shapes was commonly used in Modernist design. Again the use of a sans serif typeface works well with the overall composition. This is a clear example of modernist Graphic Design. Unlike postmodernism, modernism ensures that the message is clear and straight to the point. Type and image is combined together but still works really effectively.

All of the posters follow the idea that form follows function just like this one, yet this one is a combination of illustration and type together and doesn't have the simplicity of the other posters yet is still considered to be modernist. The clean lines on the typeface and the use if limited colour are key qualities in modernist design.
